I was told to deposit $200 into the account to receive the payment

I was sent a screenshot with a transfer of $1,000 to my account. After that, an email came to my email. I contacted the sender and he said that I had to deposit $200 into my account using the voucher, otherwise I would not be able to receive $1000. I do not know this person, I just sell him a sofa and I am not sure that the money will actually be credited.
After that, I created a business account for another email for free, no money needed to be paid for this.

I shouldn't click on links or transfer money to someone. Is this a scam or is this how it should be?
By the way, a person transfers money in dollars from America, and I live in Germany and receive money in euros.image.png

Hello @SadnessWal,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community!

We are sorry to hear that you have received a email notification mentioning that you may need to send a money to receive a big amount. What you describe receiving is a common ploy that fraudsters use to trick people using email. It's wonderful that you did not click on any link or send money to the person.

I would recommend changing your password as soon as possible to be on the safe side, and if you have any thought that your email account may have been compromised to gather that information, change your password there too. Use passwords that are unique to each site. There's also some information here that may be helpful, and this article as well.

Also, whenever you receive this type of notifications and email, then always check your resolution centre by log in to your PayPal account. If you didn't find any related details in the resolution centre means it's a fraud. Here's a great Help Center article on How to spot fake, fraudulent, or phishing PayPal emails or websites.

I hope that helps!

warm Regards,

Shradha
