Hi all. I received a notification from PayPal that someone sent me an invoice to make a payment of USD 500 for purchasing a anti virus software which I didn't make. Could I just leave it like that with out paying or how do I cancel or report this?

This is what I got "There is evidence that your PayPal account has been accessed unlawfully. $449 has been debited to your account for Digital Assets."
I didn't want to click on the email so I logged into PayPal directly. Then I changed my password. I tried to cancel the charge and go through the process of disputing. The resolution center won't let me dispute it. So I tried calling the number listed on PayPal. I spoke to 3 agents. Each wanted me to log into another website I've never heard of. they keep telling me I need to go to a "secure" paypal website to download a dispute form. I keep telling them there is no way I am logging into any site other than PayPal. PayPal should be secure enough to get me a form. HELP. I don't know how to reach a customer service agent in the fraud department. The charge is for a HUGE amount of $449. I would welcome any suggestions.

I have had this occur twice now. You can "CANCEL" the payment if you open their request. I don't know how to block someone because both times the name and address were different, but I'm frustrated that I have to cancel a payment. What if I don't log in? Will PayPal still give them my money? I need to trust that PayPal won't pay folks that I didn't authorize payments to!!

Scam money request or invoice that shows in your Paypal account..
Scammers harvest email addresses and send out money requests or invoices hoping that some of those email addresses are linked to an open Paypal account.
The unsuspecting recipient is given a fake Paypal phone number in the 'notes' section added by the scammer.
If you did call that number (DO NOT) to query the transaction the scammer tells you that they need to access your computer / Paypal account to cancel that transaction for you.
They will then hack your computer or Paypal account.
Paypal never put phone numbers on emails or in money requests/invoices, they tell you to contact them via help/contact bottom of their website pages.
If there is a cancel option then cancel it, if not ignore it and it should time out at 30 days.
As long as you don't click to pay it then no money would be transferred.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I received a request for $549.77 USD from a person claiming I sent a payment to "Bit Defender." I didn't reply to the request ; I cancelled the request, forwarded the email to Paypal, and changed my password.

A few days ago I received a email supposely from Paypal about a potentially fraudulent request for payment. In that email was the following phone number[Removed. Phone #s not permitted]that was supposely from Paypal requesting a follow-up. I immediately opened up a new window and logged into my Paypal account. There was a note about a potentially fraudulent request for payment and in that note is the identical phone number which dropped everytime I attempted to call. I never got a straight answer from customer service why the fraudulent phone number showed up when I logged in directly to Paypal. Hopefully someone here has an explanation.

Hi,
I just received an email from PayPal, and I also have an "estimate" waiting for me in the official paypal.com website:
I have nothing to do with this estimate, looks like a scam. Do I need to change my password or just ignoring it would do?
Thanks
