Totalhill is using PayPal to scam purchasers

I purchased a Wen Oscillating Spindle Sander from a website named Totalhill.com.  They encouraged the use of PayPal to pay for the purchase.  The total cost of my purchase was $146.  I received an order confirmation email from Totalhill the following morning.  When I attempted to track my order on their website, I was informed that they could not locate my order.  I have since read numerous reviews for Totalhill and they appear to be a fraudulent company and have been scamming purchasers for some time.  The BBB gives them a very poor rating.  I have attempted to contact Totalhill numerous times over the last few days with no success.  PayPal has not  released payment at this time waiting to ensure there are funds to pay for the purchase.  Can I cancel the payment from PayPal and the transaction?  Has anyone else run across Totalhill or had any success dealing with them?

Hello @BillGrabau

Welcome to the PayPal Help Community and thanks for posting your question here!

I see you're looking to cancel the payment as you couldn't track or get updates from the merchant about your recent purchase. You can usually cancel a payment which is in pending status and a cancel link next to it. Steps to cancel a payment can be found here. If the status of the payment shows as completed, means the money has already reached the merchant and it can't be canceled.

No worries! If there's any issue with the purchase, PayPal protection policy covers you if certain requirements meet. You can report the issues with the purchase in the resolution center of your PayPal account. Please refer to this page for the steps to open a dispute towards a purchase : How do I open a dispute with a seller?

Hope this information helps you!

I received a reply to my post of August 30,  2023 about asking for a refund as the result of being scammed by a fraudulent website using PayPal for payment.  My reply to the question suggested I file a dispute.  Following the directions on the reply I attempted to file a dispute but was told that it was not possible because of the type of transaction .  Is this because the transaction status is "a temporary authorization to make sure your payment method will cover the payment?" Must I wait until PayPal actually makes a payment when the seller completes the order?  The problem is that the seller appears to be non-existent.  I have attempted to contact them by using their website suggestions after numerous tries.  Web reviews of this site all state the same issue.  The transaction ID is 3R714960D44707122.

Hey @BillGrabau

You cannot dispute a pending authorization. No worries! An authorization is a temporary charge which will be in pending status until the merchant completes/process your order. If the merchant doesn't capture the authorization, it will automatically expires in 30 days. Once the merchant captures the order, the status of the payment will move to completed.

This type of pending authorizations can be cancelled only from the merchants end. As you cannot reach the seller, you can wait for few more days to see if your order gets completed to open a dispute. Feel free to reach PayPal Support team for any additional assistance.

Regards,

Bindu

I ordered some Atkins Bars from them and then the correspondence started coming from Le Huu Phi. They said my item was shipped and delivered. The delivery showed a doorstep that was unrecognizable. And no answer from them thru email and no phone number to call. I’m thinking they sent a package to themselves and then leave you hanging out to dry. Thankfully, PayPal refunded me 100%! The whole TotalHill site seems very fishy!

I feel your pain. I had no idea of this website’s reputation. So, I was on their website earlier today looking for a replacement remote control for my Roku. I had the item in the shopping cart, but before I purchased it I googled the website. No surprise, 100% of the reviews were bad. All stating that the website was a scam. Within just a few minutes, I received an email stating that a transaction was authorized through PayPal. The sellers name was in Chinese or Japanese. Not sure which. Even tho the website listed their address in West Virginia. The sellers name was under NGUYEN THANH PHONG. I immediately attempted to contact the seller, only to discover that the email address was fake. When I attempted to call the listed number, it was disconnected. I then went into my PayPal app to try and cancel the transaction since it still showed pending. I was unable to cancel and was told that if I don’t receive my order (which I am 1000% sure I won’t) I can open a dispute. This rant is not directed at PayPal. I’m submitting this so that people can avoid Totalhill. They need to be stopped from scamming people on a daily basis.

I think that might be standard practice that they can’t do anything until the transaction posts, which is BS. After it posts, do another dispute and I’m pretty sure they’ll refund you. Ya know, this feels kinda like an Etsy type deal, I’ve been scammed there before on a very similar situation. At home type businesses put their **bleep** up for sale and the same type of thing happens. I’d never use them again as well. Good luck! I bet PayPal will stand behind it and refund you! Try EBay for your remote. I bet there’s a bunch out there!! Take care!

Thank you! I’ll definitely try eBay. I also feel confident that PayPal will refund my money once the time period is up. Again, it’s not a lot of money, I’m just sick and tired of getting scammed. I guess the end result to all these scams mean that you’re limited to Amazon or eBay. And even there, you can still get scammed. Good luck to you, as well.

This was the first and last time I'll use them. I ordered something that came to $25.51 and processed it with PayPal. Got the PayPal email. That says "You authorized a payment of $25.51 USD to [Removed]." The money is out of my account. Now when I click to track the order PayPal says "Sorry.

We were not able to process your request. Please try again later." [Removed] can't track it. It also says [Removed] is the seller. Who sold me the product? [Removed]? Nobody, including PayPal. Has any idea about this transaction. All roads lead back to [Removed]. Who seems to be their factory supplier. Shame on me, I guess. I tried to save 5 bucks. I like to buy from small operations when I can. That's what I get for being cheap. I thought maybe I would be wrong, and the order would show up. But after being out of town for over a week, still nothing. Do your research before you hit the order button is the lesson here.
