Why does Paypal Protect Scammers?

Why is it so hard to get in contact with an actual person here? I've been reporting fraud for weeks now and Paypal has done nothing but protect a scam seller here. I have provided countless pieces of evidence, including official reports to the authorities. Yet, they could not even provide me with ONE piece of evidence that the "seller" actually sold me something. Hundreds of dollars gone and account compromised right before Christmas. THERE IS NO BUYER PROTECTION HERE FOLKS.

Just had the same experience. Reported a seller for taking my money then cutting all contact. I filled out the paypal resolution form and it took them approx 20 seconds after submitting the form to close the case in favour of the fake website.

Hello @no_protection @donaldboucher50 and @GavWa
Thank you for writing in the PayPal Help Community!
I completely understand your concern about the unauthorized charges in your PayPal account. @no_protection PayPal offers full protection for confirmed unauthorized transactions. Make sure to check your billing agreement payment as these charges could be from a service you signed up for in the past. Here's the article with the information about the subscriptions in your account : What is an automatic payment and how do I update or cancel one? If the case is automatically closed because they were subscriptions, you can request an appeal by contacting Customer Support.
@donaldboucher50 If you haven't already reported the charge, you can file an unauthorized dispute using these steps on our Help Center. After that, please update your password and security questions and check this article about two-factor authentication which gives you an extra layer of security when accessing your account.
@GavWa If you have reported the transaction as unauthorized, it would get closed as this will not come under unauthorized category. Unauthorized means when someone else accessed your account and processed the transaction. If you've sent the payment as a goods & services payment, you can dispute the transaction regarding the issue with the seller/purchase. Steps to open a dispute with a seller can be found here. If this is not the case, you can request an appeal by contact the support team.
Contact options to reach the support team can be found in this article : How do I contact PayPal customer service?
Hope this information helps,
Bindu

PayPal buyer safety is a joke. I filed a complaint on a seller (inckwp, Co.,Ltd) that advertised a vinyl garage door cover with Christmas scenes that comes with attaching straps. What I received was a flimsy piece of cloth that was thinner than a bed sheet and no attaching straps. Total cost was $75.74. Seller knew it was a piece of crap and offered a $15 dollar refund. I filed a complaint with PayPal stating the item was not as advertised. A month later Paypal denied my claim as authorized payment was not fraudulent. That is not even close to what I claimed in my statements. They don't care about the buyer as long as they get their cut. I will never use PayPal again!

This happened to me except the seller's email has an automatic reply that sends me in circles so communication is not possible. PayPal closed my case because the seller "provided shipping information". My complaint - I only received shipping information AFTER I filed a complaint, then I received a very generic product of what I actually ordered. They are a scam and have been using paypal as a gateway to do it....and paypal continues to allow customers to be scammed by them. I falsely thought PayPal vetted sellers and provided protection to buyers.

Me too out $1000. A woman on FB used my identity to steal $1000 through my paypal account which was NEVER linked to FB, by selling a fake item
to a couple who paid $1000 for it to pick up at that hackers home which the hacker never answered their emails. The hacker used my paypal account
to transfer the couples $1000 for the bogus item which was never picked up. I never had a paypal account on FB. Meta services security allowed this to happen and paypal too, and did not believe a word i said. I did not know this happened or how it happened until a paypal case was served to me by my email and the couple told me about the woman who hacked. That they were in contact with her. Paypal locked my bank account for the refund to the couple who were out the $1000. I had saved $500 towards my winter heat bc i am 68 and on SSI, and i had to use my credit card for the other $500 to transfer cash into my bank account to pay back the $1000 refund to the couple who were swindled. My heat money is gone and my propane is at 50% with 0 to 17 degree temps coming for the next week. I am furious about all the insecurity of FB, Paypal and Meta. Why cant paypal FB email you when there is a question regarding a sale and your account and ask you about it and block the money to come in to your account before its allowed ? Paypal is for the hacker but not for its long time members who have never had one problem all the years. One incident and paypal screws it all up. I have been a paypal member since 2000. No more. I did contact the attorney general and they replied they are looking into the IDENTITY THEFT.
