Bank declined the electronic fund transfer, but money was still taken

2 weeks ago I ordered from JD, my mom didn't like the shoes and asked me to return and once I issued a refund, in 5th of September paypal told me my bank declined the fund transfer and now I owe it £86, but when I checked my bank the money was taken and hasn't received it back, what gives? Is this normal? I'd happily fund my paypal, but I'd need the money my bank declined to offer back first. Additional information: JD has received the return in 7th of september and said it could take 10 days to process

Hi @Maggy7884,

Welcome to the community and thank you for your post!

I am sorry to hear what has happened. I do understand your concern. PayPal process payments instantly. When you make a transaction using your bank account, PayPal will send the money to the merchant and then wait to receive the funds from your bank account.

If your bank account declined or rejected the transfer, this would cause your PayPal balance to go negative. If you have not received the funds back from your bank yet, I would suggest you contact them directly. They will be able to release the funds back to you bank account.

Regarding your negative PayPal balance, as you are receiving a refund from the merchant, I would suggest you wait to receive this. Once the refund is processed, it will be placed on your PayPal account which would then resolve your negative balance.

If you choose to add the funds to your PayPal account to cover the negative balance, you will then receive the refund onto your PayPal balance for you to withdraw back to your bank account.

I hope this helps!
