Pay in 4 charge issues or am I wrong

So basically yesterday on April 14th I had a Pay in 4 payment due, so I thought to myself "oh I need to pay it" so I went on my phone and made the payment. This would be my 2nd and 3rd payment towards the plan (3/4). But later in the day it automatically took money out of my account and completed the Pay in 4 payment. I would be happy if it didn't bring my actual bank account into the negative. I called support but they disputed/in reviewed the wrong one and weren't that helpful in trying to understand the situation. I was just trying to leave the Pay in 4 at 3/4 and not completed. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your post and welcome to the community. 

I understand that you are concerned about the pay in 4 transaction. Every Pay in 4 transaction will appear in your activity feed for the full purchase amount under the merchant name as a “purchase” within your PayPal activity.  This is to reflect the initial total purchase and is not reflective of the Pay in 4 installment plan or any payments made by your specific debit or credit card.

By using Pay in 4, PayPal pays the merchant upfront and spreads the cost over 6 weeks automatically withdrawing funds based on the Payment schedule provided.  The down payment and subsequent payments will also be reflected as a separate transaction in your PayPal activity and represents the actual payments made.
