Accidentally sent money to the wrong person, what can I do to get it back?

Hello all I hope to get some help today. Earlier this month I sent money to the wrong person (noticed a typo in the email after it sent). I requested a refund and the person refused. I escalated it to make sure for myself and the other party that it wasn't a fraudulent claim and it was determined to not be. I've been communicating with the other party since it happened. They refuse, flat out refuse to refund the amount. They have denied every refund request I've sent and have ignored emails. Is there anything else I can do? And if it helps I've been on the other end of the situation earlier this year. Someone sent me $80 for a church fundraiser accidentally. At first I was suspicious but after I researched and talked to the other party I understood and refunded them. I didn't lose a dime nor did I have an issues. So I understand how the person feels but I've exhausted every revenue to recover my money. Any help is appreciated

Sounds as if you opened a dispute for unauthorised instead of item not received (as they would have nothing to send you, so you would or should have received a refund)?

A dispute for an unauthorised transaction is telling paypal that your account was hacked and used without your consent to make that transaction.
Paypal would check IP addresses and devices and close the dispute if it was you that made the transaction.

You are only allowed 1 dispute per transaction so the only way you can get a second dispute opened is to contact Paypal (when and if you can) and see if they will open a second dispute for you.
They may decline citing policies but if you say what happened then they might open a second dispute for you.

If not then if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then consider contacting your card issuer and see if they will help you with a chargeback?

It wasn't for an item not received. I was trying to send money to a friend and I messed up on the email address. It was sent to another person and I thought that maybe they'd be kind enough to just refund the money. They haven't and PayPal has tried to (2 times thus far) contact and request a refund and nothing so far. It was on my debit card and the bank first told me there was nothing I could do. PayPal asked me to open a dispute about that transaction so they could help with it. I have to fill out an affidavit about it with the bank next week. PayPal also mentioned going to ic3.gov and filing a report there as well. It was an honest typo and I can't find a way to fix things. Thanks for your help and maybe this will make it clearer.

So did you use the friends/family option to send the money? If so then paypal can only reach out to the other party and request that they refund you, they can't force you to do so. So follow any advice customer services give you to try and get the funds back.

If you sent using f/f then the only dispute you could open would be one for unauthorised but as you did make the transaction and you were not hacked then that dispute type would not work.

If you used the goods/services option then you could file a dispute for non receipt of item, as that person has nothing to send you then you have a chance of a refund.

So basically in a nutshell I'm out the amount sent and the other person keeps it no questions asked? Is there anything that I can do from my bank or anything else to get this money back?

Like I stated before, I've been on the other end. I didn't trust it at first but after reading into it I could NOT keep the money that wasn't meant for me, my conscious could not bear that. No one else was involved just myself and the other party. I just do not understand how someone could be so selfish.

Thanks for your time though

If you sent it using friends/family and they won't refund then as i said reach out to customer services and they may contact the receiver and request that they refund, but can't force them to do so OR if you funded that payment via a credit card then talk to your card issuer but again they may refuse as it was not a payment for goods.
