Twice recently I have had British V.A.T.added to foreign purchases AFTER I have confirmed my Paypal payment. I have claimed both of them back as non applicable but my question is: Should Paypal allow a seller to add on amounts after the payment has been confirmed by the buyer ?

Are you talking about import customs duties / taxes from buying internationally??

I am talking about V.A.T. which is the British 20% sales tax.

Tax and duty

You’ll be contacted by Royal Mail, Parcelforce or the courier company if you need to pay any VAT, duty or delivery charges (‘handling fees’) to receive your goods.

Thank you for that. I am still wondering why PayPal allowed a seller to add extra money AFTER the transaction and without my consent.

Hi. How did you get your added charges reversed? My PayPal dispute was denied even though I never authorized the additional charge.

If you are being charged customs duties then that is between you and your government as it is a tax obligation as its you that is importing the goods.

Nothing to do with the seller and they would not know how much your government is going to charge you anyway.
