Can someone please explain Paypal fees for international merchants in an easy to understand way

Good day.

I am a merchant who is based in Botswana, Africa and I do not understand PayPal fees at all, I have looked at their fees, but the information is all over the place and hard to understand.

I received $9.25 in my PayPal merchant account for a product that I sold for $10 on my website, meaning that I paid a whole 7.5% commission to Paypal, which surprised me because I thought their fees were lower than that. 

Please can someone help me to understand Paypal fees for a merchant who is based in Botswana.

I completely understand your concern about the fees. There is a fee when you receive payments for a sale. Additional fees may apply for international transaction or the payment involves currency conversion. For more information on fees, click Fees at the bottom of any PayPal page.

I don't understand the fees on the page that you referred me to. The fees there are not clear and they're so many charges so i dont know what applies to me, i was charged 7.5% on a $10 transaction and 62% on a 0.50 transaction so I'm extremely confused and that fees page didn't help at all. I am based in Botswana and my customers are based in Africa so please may you kindly help me to understand which charges apply to me if that's okay with you.
