GBP balance shows on homepage but not when I try to transfer via the app. Transfer not working on PC

When I try to transfer my US funds and GBP funds on my PC nothing happens but a circle spinning. I saw other people had the same problem and they said it worked via the app. I tried the app and was able to transfer my US funds to my bank, but not GBP. GBP shows a balance on the home page but on the top of the transfer page it shows zero, the correct balance does show up on the button but does nothing when you click the button.

Transfers to bank accounts have to be in local currencies.

I can help with this because I was you three days ago: couldn't transfer on PC, had to use the app for the first time, only the USD would transfer over while the GBP was confusingly stuck at $0.00 at the top of the page even though the blue button at the bottom/my wallet showed the full amount.

 

So in the past, every single time I've ever transferred a different currency over to my bank, PayPal has automatically done the converting and you don't have to think about it - which is what I imagine has been the case for you. For whatever reason, out of the blue, now you have to manually convert it first before you attempt to transfer it. Here are the steps the PayPal agent told me to follow:

 

  1. Go to Wallet.
  2. Select More icon (the three dots) beside the currency you want to convert and click Convert currency.
  3. Select a currency and enter the amount you want to convert. Our conversion rate will be displayed on this page. Click Next.
  4. Click Convert Now

Once you've done this, now you can go back to the transfer page and the correct amount will show at the top and you can transfer it. For the record, the PayPal agent also seemed surprised it didn't do it automatically. But then again, that seems par for the course these days with things not working the way they're supposed to do around here... anyway, hope that helps!

I couldn't do it on the app and had to do the conversion on the website (then go back to the app for the transfer).

 

If you still can't get it to work, I'd suggest contacting an agent to help. To bypass the annoyingly useless chatbot, in the PayPal messenger type, "I want to speak to a customer service agent." If it asks you what you would like more help with, repeat the same phrase. Then it should ask if you'd like it to send them a message and just click Yes. Then send another message with what you want to say and a real person will reply to it (in my case it was only a few minutes but PayPal says it could be hours). Sometimes the bot may sass you about there being no agents but just try again throughout the day and eventually you'll get through to someone.
