SEPA direct debit was not executed from your account because of No valid Mandate

Hi all,

I have an automatic payment for one of my subscription services.
It occurs every 22nd day in the month and everything was working fine for whole past year until this month.

Transaction occurred again on 22nd this time. However, today (26th) I've received a notification from my bank saying that:
"SEPA Direct Debit in the amount of XYZ was not executed from your account...."
and
"REASON OF NON-EXECUTION: No valid Mandate"

Does anyone know what should I do in this case? Transaction seems to have disappeared from my bank account, but I can still see it in PayPal transactions. I really want to make sure it was processed and I do not loose access to a subscription service.

Did you cancel the direct debit mandate between you and paypal in your online banking section of direct debit mandates?

Have you had a failed bank transfer or negative balance recently before that subscription was due?

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

  • I did not cancel anything, but I have to say I didn't set it up initially either - it was all done automatically when I first subscribed to the services a year ago, through PayPal, I wasn't asked to do anything in my online banking. Perhaps it expired after a year(?)
  • I did not, this is the first time I'm seeing failed SEPA Direct Debit transfer.

You may have to set it up with the merchant again?

I did check on merchants site too. It shows as everything was processed correctly and Feb. 22nd payment is logged in the transaction history same as on PayPal transaction history. It also says that next payment will occur on Mar. 22nd. Payment Method was also showing correctly - PayPal and just to be sure I re-authorized the Payment Method again, re-adding the same PayPal info.

The only place it failed/disappeared is my credit card transaction history and I'm worried this will be a problem for PayPal and merchant in following days.

Same problem here. Randomly, PayPal is charging subscriptions as SDD or another format. I contacted PP several times for fixing the issue of SDD payments being bounced back by my bank with no success over several months. The customer service is a joke.

To be fully precise. - my bank indicated to me that PayPal was trying to charge SDD, - my bank indicated that they are not signing new SDD agreements and phasing it out, - I informed Paypal several times, asking for explanation about the randomness of trying to force a sepa direct debit, - PayPal ignores my demand and, after a couple of months another bounced back payment appears, on which I need yo pay fees. The core of the issue seems to be that PayPal arbitrarily decides to pass some payments as SDD. - Paypal
