send my euros as euros without conversion

As a business account Paypal has always allowed me to hold money in other currencies, such as euros or pounds, and allow the euros / pounds etc. to accumulate until I convert them to dollars when I transfer them to my US bank account, with Paypal doing the conversion to dollars at their own conversion rate.

On this page:

https://www.paypal.com/us/brc/article/how-to-accept-foreign-currency-with-your-business-account

Paypal says:

""Looking to receive payments made in currencies other than U.S. dollars and hold them in your PayPal Business account? Follow the steps below to update your Preference for receiving payments. The benefit here is you can hold balances in foreign currencies and arrange to convert yourself.""

#1)

What does it mean "arrange to convert yourself"?

I'd like more information on how to do this, but I have yet to find any.

#2)

I was speaking to a Paypal rep on the phone a few days ago asking some question regarding holding a Euro balance, a Pound balance, etc.

I asked her if we could send euros from our euro balance (using "send money") to someone in Europe without ever transferring them to dollars.
She said we could do that, without a fee,  if the person has a  "personal" euro currency Paypal account (someone based in Europe).

However, when I log in to Paypal and I go to "Send Money", there is no option for me to choose "euros" as the sending currency, only dollars.

If I am "holding" Euros, and I want to send Euros to someone, why can't I choose "euros" as my "sending" currency as well as my "receiving" currency?

I realize Paypal likes to make money on the spread — but I have zero reason to convert my euros to dollars only to send them to someone again as euros?

How can I send me Euros to someone as Euros?

Is there something specifically in US Law prevents Paypal from being able to allow me to send the money I am holding as Euros in my Paypal account out as a Euro Payment to someone?  If so, can  Paypal please cite the statute? I'd love to read it.

Hello @jdq

Welcome back to the PayPal Community!

I understand you'd like to learn more about using different currencies on PayPal. When the article mentions arranging to convert the currencies, it's referring to the fact that you can manually convert them when you want, rather than having it done automatically when the money arrives, as long as you've adjusted your settings as outlined in the article. Based on your history with PayPal, it sounds like you already know how to convert currencies. However, just in case, you can find the instructions on our Help Center here

When it comes to sending money in another currency, you should be able to select the currency on the payment screen. I just did a quick test and found that on the PayPal Mobile App, you will want to select the blue "USD" on the right of the screen to change the currency. If you're using a web browser or mobile web browser, "USD" will show up under the dollar amount, slightly highlighted in gray. Once you've selected your amount, currency, and payment type, you'll be able to pick your payment method. On the payment method screen, you'll be able to choose which PayPal Balance you'd like to use.

If the option to change your currency is not available, even after clicking on the currency selection, please reach out to Customer Support for assistance investigating further. You can contact Customer Support by selecting 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal page. Customer Support is also available on Twitter (X), Instagram, and Facebook private messages.

I hope this helps!

Hello Meghan,

As I wrote:

...when I log in to Paypal and I go to "Send Money", there is no option for me to choose "euros" as the sending currency, only dollars.

Let us say i have chosen not to automatically convert currencies, and I have accumulated 550 Euros in my Paypal account.

I want to send an associate in Europe 200 Euros.

Since I have 550 Euros in my Paypal account, I have no need to convert any Dollars to Euros.

But when I go to "Send Money" I have no option to choose Euros as my "sending" currency, I can only send "dollars" and choose "euros" as my "receiving currency".

This forces me to convert my Euros to dollars (losing value because of Paypal's spread) and then to convert those dollars back again to Euros (again losing value).

I have 550 Euros in my Paypal account. I want to send 200 of those 550 Euros to someone in Europe.  That person has a Paypal account associated with a European bank.

Why am I not able to send 200 of 550 Euros to an actual European?

Why, when I want to send Euros to someone in Europe,  am I forced to convert my Euros to Dollars, only then to convert those Dollars back to Euros?

Thanks.

I am really looking to do this.

I am stateside and hold a Euros balance. I want to send Euros to a friend in Spain (Euros account), but it charges me a fee ?

for a 10Euro transfer it was almost a 1 Euro fee.  (.87 Euro)

for 100 Euros, it was over 4% fee. Can't I just send her my Euro balance to her Euro account. It is Euros to Euros?

Please advise.

I am facing the same issue here. I am trying to send Euros To Europe but there is no option to choose another currency. The amount of money that has to be sent is displayed in Dollars. PayPal is forcing me to exchange my Euros to Dollars and then exchange Dollars back to Euros, which in turn is inconvenient and I am losing money after all.

It doesn't work on the mobile app.

On the website you can send money and select the receiving currency, and then after it will show the sending currency as your local currency. Change the sending currency to the receiving currency (by clicking on the sending currency dropdown) and it will change the whole transaction to be in the receiving currency.

That did not used to be the case.
However when I try it now I am forced to pay nearly a 5% fee to send my own Euros to "Friends and Family" in Europe.

Sucks.
