we're having trouble with this transaction

I have a new paypal account. I have been unable to add money from ANY debit card or bank account. I keep getting error message: We're having trouble with this transaction. Try again with another debit card or bank account. I tried with multiple debit cards and from my bank account. I've contacted customer service multiple times. They can't figure it out. They tell me to wait 72 hours, but it's been well over 72 hours and it still does not work. The troubleshooting steps that they provided me do not work. It appears as if Paypal is blocking all deposits into my account.

When you previously received a paypal payment did you set up a balance account OR did you select the auto-withdrawal to a bank account?

If it was the latter then the option to 'add' funds may be disabled because as soon as they hit your balance they would be auto-withdrawn back to your bank account.

it's a personal account. It doesn't have auto withdrawal capabilities. so no.

customer service is still unable to resolve this issue. I've tried calling several times and corresponding via email. I even asked to speak with a supervisor. No one can seem to remove this limitation of not being able to make deposits to my account.

Same issue here.  I have been transferring funds back and forth between my PayPal account and my E-Trade bank account for several years now without any difficulty.  This cryptic error message — "We're having trouble with this transaction; try again with another credit card or bank account" — started showing up approx. two weeks ago (circa August 15, 2023) and is as yet unresolved as of August 28, 2023.  Interestingly, I can still transfer funds from PayPal to E-Trade Bank without any difficulty; it is the attempted transfer from E-Trade Bank to PayPal that is causing the error message above to show up.

UPDATE: I have also experimented with transferring funds between my PayPal account and my RedCard Reloadable account.  Once again, the transfer works only one way:  I am able to transfer funds from my PayPal account to my RedCard Reloadable account but NOT from my RedCard Reloadable account to my PayPal account.

I hope tech person from PayPal reads this and looks into the matter.

Same problem, and I agree with the rough timeline of when this started happening that others have shared. It's a problem in the PayPal system the only question is do they know the problem exists.

Hello @E_skizzle and everyone else!

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum! I understand it can be a bit frustrating when you're unable to add funds to your PayPal account. If you're trying to add money to your account to fund a payment, I'd recommend trying to fund the payment through a bank or card instead of adding money to your account. Here are some great steps to try if a recent payment has been declined.

If you're trying to add money to your PayPal account to fund a PayPal Debit Card transaction, I'd recommend making sure your bank and your card are both confirmed first. After that, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support teams for assistance.

Best wishes to you all!
