Using my paypal debit card

The title pretty much says it all but here's a clarification.  I have a pp debit card that i have never used.  When I do use it, what happens if I don't have enough money in my paypal account to cover the transaction?  Is the transaction declined?  Does the transaction go to my bank on file?  Does the transaction go to my paypal savings account?  Just trying to find out how it works.
