I HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS AND I CAN'T EVEN BUY SOMETHING THAT COSTS A DOLLAR WITHOUT PAYPAL ASKING ME TO PUT IN A CREDIT CARD/ DEBIT CARD NUMBER IN CASE OF LACK OF FUNDS.
I JUST WANNA PURCHASE THINGS WITH PAYPAL WITH THE MONEY THATS IN THERE. I DO NOT WANT MY CARDS AND PAYPAL TO BE LINKED.

Also sephiroth - I've been with paypal since it began (well over a decade) and they never before felt the need to verify anything because until this happened I always have plenty of money in my account (I am a SELLER). Once I realize how capricious, unreasonable and distainful of their customers paypal is, I will be more careful.
And I would never use ebay....Paypal was a good company before they were taken over by ebay. But the paypal of today is not the company that I have done business with for over 10 years.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT I GOT A REFUND FROM A SELLER THAT DIDN'T SEND MY ITEM IT TOOK ME OVER THREE MOS TO JUST GET MY MONEY BACK FROM EBAY AND THEN PAPAL THEY KEPT PLAYING GAMES TELLING ME. OH YOU NEED TO CALL PAPAL THEN PAPAL WOULD SAY OH YOU NEED TO CALL EBAY ,ANYWAY NOW THAT I GOT MY REFUND IN MY ACCOUNT THEY WON'T LET ME USE IT THEY HAVE PUT A SPENDING LIMIT ON MY ACCOUNT AND NOW SAY I NEED TO ADD A BANK ACCOUNT OR A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT TO OPEN MY LIMIT. I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EARS. WHY DO I NEED TO ADD ALL THIS WHEN IT'S MY MONEY IS IN MY ACCOUNT HAVE HAD THIS ACCOUNT FOR OVER TEN YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO ENTER ANY OF MY BANK INFO I ALWAYS PAID FOR THINGS MY WITH A MONEY ORDER . OR POSTAL MONEY ORDER EVEN A MONEY GRAM. NOW THERE'S A HOLD ON MY ACCOUNT. UNTIL I ADD ONE OF THESE THINGS. THEY SAY IT'S SO THEY CAN HAVE VERIFICATION OF YOU .AND IT'S TO PROTECT YOU FROM IDENTITY FRAUD. I WOULD THINK THERE WOULD BE A BETTER WAY TO DO THAT. GOOD LUCK. ONCE THEY GET YOUR MONEY .YOU WON'T GET TO SPEND IT. UNTIL YOU GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL BANK INFO OR CREDIT CARD THIS IS NOT RIGHT. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT WHY CAN'T YOU USE IT .

Interesting experience that everyone should read except that the all caps and no paragraphs makes it difficult. (Not a diss...just want to read your post)

Serithot is undoubtedly a paypal employee. This is the way I was treated when I tried to resolve the problem through phone support.
Apparently Paypal is required to offer phone support but thinks it is a big joke to abuse people when they call. They have no incentive to try and help you.
This is the most unprofessional company - they simply do not care. They get their jollies by making fun of the customers they are skrwing over

I THINK YOU MUST WORK FOR THEM ? SOME OF US DON'T FEEL YOU SHOULD HAVE TO GIVE OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR YOUR CREDIT CARD JUST TO OPEN UP AN ACCOUNT.! EBAY NOW OFFERS A THING CALLED GREEN DOT CARD ANY ONE CAN USE IT. TO PAY FOR THINGS ON EBAY . BUT IT WILL COST YOU $4.99 JUST TO LOAD IT EACH TIME YOU BUY SOMETHING WITH IT AND THEY ALSO PUT A LIMIT ON HOW MUCH YOU CAN USE IT. THIS SHOULD BE ALL THEY NEED AND THERE ARE OTHER WAYS EBAY AND PAPAL CAN GET YOUR VERIFICATION OF WHO YOU ARE DON'T GIVE ME THIS SHI@@#@ ABOUT HOW IT'S PROTECTED? IDENTITY FRAUD IS EVERY WHERE . IT'S A CHANCE WE TAKE WHEN EVER PAY FOR ANYTHING WITH A BANK CARD OR CREDIT CARD. EBAY AND PAPAL WANT THESE THINGS BECAUSE THEY MAKE THERE MONEY OFF OF FEES. IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE POST IN HERE YOU WILL FIND THERE ARE OF LOT OF US THAT HAVE PUT IN THERE BANK ACCOUNT OR A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT. AND ARE NOW HAVENING PROBLEMS WITH PAPAL AND EBAY PUTTING HOLDS ON ACCOUNTS OR NOT GETTING MONEY BACK IN TO OUR ACCOUNTS . AND IT CAN TAKE MOS TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK. IF YOU ARE DOING SO WELL WITH PAPAL AND EBAY THEN YOU ARE VERY LUCKY. MOST OF US ARE NOT ! THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME OTHER WAY TO GET YOUR ID VERIFICATION. AND IT'S NOT BY GIVING THEN A BANK ACCOUNT OR A CREDIT CARD. THERE IS NO SAFE PLACE. THEY SEEM TO BE GETTING IN TO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ANY MORE. SO IF YOU REALLY THINK EBAY SO SAFE FOR ALL YOUR PERSONAL INFO ,THEN YOU GO FOR IT. BUT FOR ME NEVER AGAIN WILL I ADD PERSONAL BANK OR CREDIT CARD INFO

I have been away for awhile and was checking my 2009 fees etc. and while searching for "other fees", which is another bunch of crap, I saw this thread. I purchased something about 2 months ago and didn't have to enter a debit/credit card. Is this something new this year? If I have enough money in my Paypal account to purchase something, will I have to have credit/debit card? Where can I look for more info on this? I don't find it very simple to get answers without touring the entire Paypal site. I'm still trying to find out how I can be charged for someone using a credit or debit card to purchase something from me. The real thing that makes my mind explode is that the buyer gets to decide whether to pass on the cost to the seller or to pay it. HaHa, yeah that's a good one. Please excuse my ignorance but this is new to me, I only occasionally sell stuff, mostly small stuff.

It came as a complete surprise to me. I had a paypal balance of over $1,000 and was trying to process a $10 Skype charge when it wouldn't let me continue without putting in a credit card. (I've had a verified bank account for over 10 years and no chargebacks or anything. The balance was from payments that had accumulated over a year so they couldn't have had a hold on them)
Very mysterious. I do NOT advise calling customer support as I got sexually harrassed and there was NO HELP AT ALL...the 2 calls I made were answered by complete idiots whose only mission appeared to be to jerk me around and make inappropriate comments.
