Hermes with token and mfid query

Hi, I offered to help a charity update their website after their web designer left. I should say I'm not a web developer so my knowledge is quite limited, but I've used Wordpress and Elementor before, and helped set up a very simple site for another organisation - so definitely beginner level. The problem I'm having is that when a user tries to buy membership, the button they click sends this code:

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/hermes?token=2KX7[Removed. Phone #s not permitted]50&useraction=commi...

and the user then just sees a message saying "You've been inactive for a while, so we logged you out to protect your account. Return to the merchant and restart the payment process."

We don't have any obvious shop on the site, just a page where they can join using this (eg WooCommerce). The page itself doesn't seem to have been updated since 2021. My very basic questions are:

1. What does the "hermes" part of this URL mean? Is it a PayPal app or API of some kind?

2. My guess is that the token= or mfid= parameters are no longer valid - how do I find out what these should be? Is this something I can reset at the PayPal back end?

The PayPal account in question isn't my own - the organisation has a business PayPal account. I know they have some "saved buttons" (which I can't access at the moment, as I don't have access to look at the PayPal back end until the treasurer gets back), so I was just looking for some basic explanations at this stage if anyone could help?

Thanks!

Chris.
