Hi, I offered to help a charity update their website after their web designer left. I should say I'm not a web developer so my knowledge is quite limited, but I've used Wordpress and Elementor before, and helped set up a very simple site for another organisation - so definitely beginner level. The problem I'm having is that when a user tries to buy membership, the button they click sends this code:
and the user then just sees a message saying "You've been inactive for a while, so we logged you out to protect your account. Return to the merchant and restart the payment process."
We don't have any obvious shop on the site, just a page where they can join using this (eg WooCommerce). The page itself doesn't seem to have been updated since 2021. My very basic questions are:
1. What does the "hermes" part of this URL mean? Is it a PayPal app or API of some kind?
2. My guess is that the token= or mfid= parameters are no longer valid - how do I find out what these should be? Is this something I can reset at the PayPal back end?
The PayPal account in question isn't my own - the organisation has a business PayPal account. I know they have some "saved buttons" (which I can't access at the moment, as I don't have access to look at the PayPal back end until the treasurer gets back), so I was just looking for some basic explanations at this stage if anyone could help?
Thanks!
Chris.

Good day @LeicesterChris,
Thank you for posting to the PayPal community.
Currently, your website is using the same default token for all payment attempts, which will soon expire. It seems to be an integration issue.
We recommend merchants to integrate our latest PayPal Checkout (Smart button) product.
I would suggest to please use the https://developer.paypal.com/integration-builder/ to generate button code and use on your website.
Additionally, before you begin coding, it is essential to familiarize yourself with some key points. To gain a better understanding of these points, I urge you to refer to the following link:
https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/standard/integrate/#link-knowbeforeyoucode
For more information, I recommend referring to the detailed guide provided through the link below:
https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/
https://developer.paypal.com/demo/checkout/#/pattern/server
I have tried to replicate the issue you reported and I was able to access the "View your saved buttons" link without any issues.
Please follow the steps outlined below using the primary email address associated with your PayPal Business account.
Login PayPal.com >> Hover on your name at the top right corner >> go to "Account settings" >> Website payments >> PayPal buttons >> click "View your saved buttons"
(Or)
Login PayPal.com >> go to direct link "https://www.paypal.com/buttons/" >> follow the above steps.
If you are still experiencing issues, please create an MTS ticket via the following URL - https://www.paypal-support.com/s/?language=en_US . Please ensure that you provide detailed information and error details when submitting the ticket.
Sincerely,
Kavya

Thank you very much, @Kavyar - this is very helpful indeed. In fact, I did revamp the page and use a PayPal button instead, which worked perfectly! It has all been a bit of a mystery to me, so thank you again for a very clear and helpful answer, and the useful links!
Chris.
