I have a vehicle for sale on Ebay. I have listed the acceptable method of payment as cash (in person) or cashiers check. I have been reading where a number of fake/fradulent cashiers checks have been tendered for payment recently around our state. What can a seller do to protect themselves in this case?
Protection: Don't accept a cashier's or bank check.
When selling a vehicle make sure you are using eBay motors and follow all of their rules.
As for payment, cash only, no exceptions.
Another option: You and the buyer walk into the buyer's local bank and watch as the local bank prepares a bank check. Caution: It may be difficult to cash a bank check as there is no way of verifying validity.
