Hello All,
Before I explain my issue further. I want to clarify that I'm not a eBay seller, I only use paypal to receive payments from my clients for the service I provide to them. This has nothing to do with a transaction gone wrong or something like that.
On 22nd of May 2012. Out of no where Paypal added a negative balance to my account without any reason. The subject of the transaction was : correction to adjust. On the next day Paypal added the exact same amount to my account with a same subject to even out the negative balance. But right after that they added another negative balance to my account with same subject but this time, this wasn't corrected after that. and My account still holds this negative balance.
There is no outside fraud, there is not transaction is being done. It's all for paypal is doing some adjustment on my account which left me with a negative balance of $-1,722.78 USD.
Now from last 20 days or so I have been calling Paypal customer service, emailing them no stop without any results. I didn't even get a response for my last email. Right now I can't have my clients send payments to paypal as the negative balance will eat it up. I can't close my account as the negative balance needs to be resolved first. And I assume paypal won't be resolving it any time soon. I have running out of ideas what to do. Is there anybody here can help me with this issue and give any ideas?
Thanks & regards
Debasish

Hi purecoder,
Typically a correction is done manually when a processing error has occurred. These situations are rare and there's no way to know the specific reason without looking at your account. When these corrections are initiated, an email is sent to the primary email address on the PayPal account with an explanation.
If I had to guess, I'd say that it's one of the following situations:
- A bank withdrawal for that amount was initiated in the past and appeared to be returned to us. We found out later from the bank that it was not returned and the funds were sent to the customer's bank account.
- We received notification of a bank reversal related to a sent or received payment that we weren't notified about automatically when it first occurred.
There are other possibilities but those are the most common of the rare cases when a correction needs to occur. Contacting Customer Support is the best way to get a specific explanation but I know you have already tried that. What is the explanation that customer support is providing?

That's exactly the explanation provided to me by customer service. About the said issue a withdrawal was failed to reach my bank and I initiated a complain about it. I submitted all documents from my bank that I haven't received the payment. Paypal refunded the funds to my paypal account after 8 months. If Paypal refunded my funds without verifying if they got the refund from the bank what too them 8 months to refund. And second there is no question of funds credited to my bank account as the bank account was closed. I also submitted the document from bank specifying that my bank account was closed. I"m at a loss here on what to do. First I lost the money from withdraw, then after 8 long months Paypal refunded to me after hundreds of Calls and emails and now Paypal wants it back. I simply refused to believe that a financial company couldn't verify that the amount was refunded to them in 8 months and they paid me without making sure they have the funds with them.

Hi purecoder,
I know these situations can be frustrating and I know I would feel the same way. I'm glad to hear that you have an explanation now for why this happened. Please keep in mind that PayPal is acting on information we receive from our bank so we may have originally thought that the funds had been returned to us.
We do have the opportunity to initiate a trace with our bank. Depending on the receiving bank, we may be able to provide a reference number that you can take to your bank so they can locate the funds and get those to you. The trace time frame can vary depending on your country and the bank so hopefully it won't take very long to get a response. I know in some cases it can be many weeks. 😞 It sounds like you have already started the trace process but if you're not sure I recommend contacting support.

Thanks Frank, It's really helpfull info. I will ask the the reference number next time I call paypal. I assume you also work with paypal, is there any chance you could look into my account and see what's going on. Please let me know.
Thanks

Hi purecoder,
As this is a member to member help community, we don't have access to your account through this site. Sorry. 😞 There are some situations when we have to recommend a community member contact Support for assistance.
Why didn't an employee answer my post?
