Partner's credit card not accepted

For many months my partner and I used our credit cards, both issued on my credit card account, on Paypal. Our surnames are different, but this was never an issue.

Our Bank decided to upgrade the account and new cards were issued with a new account number. I added my new card to my Paypal account successfully, but my partner has never been able to do so. We deleted the old ones, but the message he consistently receives is - cannot add this card as it iappears on another account. I deleted it on my account, but nothing changes.

Paypal have now explained that as our surnames are different, Paypal's security system will not allow cards on thr summer credit card number with different surnames will be rejected.

Other than changing my name or his, has anyone else had this happen? Surely we cannot be the only 'differently named' partners who want to use the same credit card account?

@dh32

Paypal accounts are in individual names and you should have a bank account or card in your name only.

Why not have 2 paypal accounts, one for him and one for you.........that is what myself and other half have.

Thank you for that.

We have had separate Paypal accounts since well before we were together, we have both individual and joint bank accounts and several credit cards each.

The problem has only arisen with this one card after the Bank upgraded the account and changed the card account number. I deleted thge old one on my Paypal account and added the new one successfuly to begin with, but John has tried to do the same, deleted the old one but never been able to add the replacement. We are told this is Paypal's security policy, which I can accept in principle - not adding the card in two different surnames - but it worked perfectly well before the replacements were issued!!
