Has Paypal gone mad?
I have just made an Ebay purchase and tried to pay for it by Paypal which I have done hundreds of times without a hitch. Payments have always been instant even when the ballance was taken from my normal high street bank account.
This seems to have changed for no reason. The question is WHY!!
My bank account is regestered and confirmed with paypal. My debit card is registered with paypall and is not out of date or expired and as been been used for this purpose many times.
Why has this changed , the whole idea of paypal is to pay instantly and securely. I could have sent a normal cheque quicker than the e cheque!
Sort this out PAYPAL, PLEASE

I had that happen to me. It appeared that an older card had expired (!) and although my current one was still valid it was ignored. I was informed that this was due to "automated processes". It meant that cash sent went as an echeque rather than a transfer of funds. I can understand the way it happened and that my interests were being protected but it was inconvenient and I'm still waiting for a response from the person to whom the money was to have gone.

Exactly the same problem here. Last week, instant transfers no problem. Today, echeques. I'm hoping it's a temporary glitch.

Hey there, when you use you banks direct debit/instant transfer to fund a payment, we advance the money on your behalf and then wait for the funds from your bank to process through (this takes 5-7 working days). We are willing to wait this time as there is a valid, up to date card on the PayPal account that we can fall back on should that transfer fail.
Here are the 3 main reasons why your instant payment with bank would fail.
• You have a confirmed bank account but your PayPal account has an insufficient balance available and you don’t have a valid debit or credit card registered
• You have a confirmed bank account but your PayPal account has an insufficient balance available and your debit or credit card(s) has expired
• Our internal security system will only allow the payment to be sent as an eCheque
If it is a case that the card has reached its expiry date, been denied by the card issuer or is no longer valid. Then please go to the “Profile” section of your PayPal account and update the card details there.

Same thing has happened to me today. Used paypal 5 times in the last month with no problems and then today tried to pay for ebay purchase and it said that I could not use instant payment but only gave me the option of paying by echeque, when I tried doing that the payment was refused. I checked my account and everything is okay credit card is still valid and bank account is confirmed.
There must be a problem with paypal.
