Around two weeks ago my PayPal got hacked by some incel and used to by some Russian shooter game called escape from tarkov. I dont click any fake emails or go on any dodgy sites, but im assuming that they either got in through my email or just managed to hack it So three separate transactions went through to the company xsolla, all without my authorisation or consent. I'm Australian, so this ended up being $400aud that came out of my account. Never in my life have I ever bought a forking shooting game for pc, and I'm pretty sure it was either bought in hk or Europe. So of course I opened a case with PayPal under fraudulent activity, and i also emailed the company xsolla to let them know. PayPal closed the case within the day saying that they investigated and found the purchases to be "consistent" with things I have purchased previously, which isn't forking possible, and refused to refund me or take it seriously. So I had to call them and talk to some apathetic ashhole who repeated what i already read in the email before I called,, until i asked him to appeal it. While they're reinvestigating, I get a response back from the refund manager of xsolla saying that they can't refund me either because they "didn't find enough evidence it was fraudulent". Then, PayPal closed the case AGAIN saying the same thing as last time: that it's consistent with my previous purchases and they DECIDED it wasn't unauthorised because of that. This is appalling surface level investigation and pathetic protection of its users. Now I'm stuck with a negative balance and they have begun calling me. Not only am I a uni student who CANNOT AFFORD to dish out $400 because of PayPals incompetence, but I also refuse to do so when it was not me that made the damn purchase. I am planning on calling again but I don't have high hopes. Any advice is welcome-- is there a support email I can possibly write to in addition to calling ? I'm sick of the ridiculous anxiety this is causing me for something that isn't even my fault.
