Tickets purchased outside 180 day cutoff for Resolution

Is there any recourse via Paypal for tickets bought more than 180 days ago for concerts and flights now cancelled due to Covid? I bought flights in October to Florence paid via Paypal but cannot claim back via paypal as it is outside the deadline. Vueling, the airline are being very slow to react and each time is a battle - trying to get money back requires a phone call to a permanently engaged phoneline. only been able to get flight vouchers so far. had I raised the dispute via Paypal when the credit was first offered in March I would have been within the 180 days but thought I should go down the Vueling phonecall route first - now Paypal won't cover me either.

Now also worried about concert tickets bought via Paypal which will fall outside the deadline if not refunded by the ticket provider.

Anyone had any experience with this yet please? thanks and stay well x

Hello! Good luck with this, Paypal are being extremely difficult with me. In Nov 19 I bought some tickets for a show in April 2020, this was obviously rescheduled due to Covid-19 to August. However last week the theatre I was going to have announced its ceased trading and going into insolvency. On their website it says to claim refunds via bank or Paypal, or if you used it then credit card company. I paid for mine through Paypal but they have twice closed my claim and are refusing to pay me back because of the 180 day term. I think this is really unfair. I can’t go to the show now as the theatre is permanently closed and the whole tour has now been cancelled so I can’t even swap dates. I’m really cross and I don’t know what to do. My bank says I need to deal with Paypal as the payment went through as a direct debit payment. Paypal are point blank refusing a refund. It appears they aren’t even reading my e mails as the replies are very generic! Good luck.

Hello

I have the same problem booked flights with Vueling in November 2019 for holiday in May 202. I also went down the Vueling route waiting for the refund email which I had back in May we are now in June. No sign of payment, contacted PayPal no help at all purchase was over 180 days ago. If PayPal are treating their customers like this what's the point in buying anything with them in the first place.

Sadly even credit cards won't cover you after 180 days in fact most credit cards only give you 120 days so why would you think Paypal can give you over the 180 days?

Have you tried travel insurance, I had the same issue and my insurance company reimbursed me.

I wouldn’t be able to use travel insurance for theatre tickets in my home town would I?

We also had this issue with Opodo, who won't refund for cancelled COVID flights, and Paypal's dispute don't cover us as the payment was made more than 180 days before the flight (and definitely also more than 180 days before I realised Opodo were not going to refund). Opodo have closed all forms of call centre and the email responses are automated so they clearly do not intend to help. Learning: Paypal does not protect me at all in case of flights booked 180 days in advance. Good advice from another person in this message chain who says use travel insurance in future (I note that Martin Lewis also recommends booking travel insurance when the holiday is booked). I also learned that Opodo is not ABTA member, so no dispute resolution there. I will never use Paypal for major purchases like holidays in future, they have adhered legitimately to their policies but my belief that I was protected when using Paypal was an illusion.

Paypal protect you but only if you open a dispute in time.

This is no different than if you paid via a credit card as they normally only give you between 120-180 days.

No payment processor gives you infinite protection.

I have all year round travel insurance and that is what its for, claiming after your payment processor no longer covers  you.

I have the same issue.... and bought with PayPal believing their protection. Surely the point is  that the goods have not been received... they point of delivery is the important part, not point of payment. And I do believe that Mastercard DO protect you, as I have had successful claims via them beyond the 180 days. Unfortunately I rush booked an amazing deal for long haul flights (Mastercard) and then bought internal flights via Paypal.  I intended to take out Travel insurance after a heart scan (had to declare for insurance but it and it found no issue) - but Covid hit and insurance basically refused coverage that included Covid cancellations. So now I am stuffed... but I have not received the item I bought.

The lesson... don't use Paypal if you might need to claim against them. Legally I wonder their liability.... I paid them for the item - It never arrived.
