I need advice on how to open a paypal dispute. I have a seller emailing my personal email demanding extra money to pay for postage. Since this email is not showing up in my eBay mailbox, just my personal mail, eBay customer service said for me to cancel payment or ask for refund through paypal. I have went into my paypal account but do not see anywhere to cancel or dispute payment.

Hi Nana - the wording you received was after you clicked on "Cancel a transaction?" 😞

I don't think you can file a dispute with Paypal now, but the link is:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/general/PPDisputeResolution-outside

I'm sorry if I led you astray, it was not my intention.

Hopefully, you will be able to report a problem with the transaction soon. The seller either has to eat the cost and ship it, or refund you the payment. Personally, I would prefer a refund as the trust level with this seller just went down if they are demanding extra money for shipping.

The seller can cancel your transaction using this link:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html

Good luck! I hope you have the best outcome eventually. 🙂

Hi nana - That's very strange an eBay seller would ask you for more postage. If they put the wrong shipping price, the should either ask to cancel the transaction or honor the shipping. I once sent a drum set to Australia for $40. The shipping was actually $140 (wrong weight put in), but I honored it. I would never demand a buyer to pay extra.

Anyway, you can file a dispute from Paypal via Resolution Center, or go to eBay, My eBay, Won. Look for the transaction in question, click on More Actions, and select Report a problem. I would probably choose "Cancel a transaction" as the problem reason.

Thanks TekGems. I followed your path, of course it is all automated but it finally said for me to wait on item to arrive. LOL It asked if item was paid for, I said yes, then it ask had I received it, no. Well it decided it was too soon for me to open a dispute, I should wait until the 28th. Oh you gotta love it! Hopefully seller will respond to email sent, but I think if they are smart enough to know not to request extra money through eBay email, then they are smart enough to just ignore refunding my money. Wish I could just open a dispute through paypal, think a hold on their account would get their attention a whole lot faster than an email from a buyer.

Like you, I have also ate postage before but have been on the receiving end too. We may not like it, but when we make a mistake, as a seller, you deal with it. On the other hand I recently received a package full of baby clothes that had cost the seller more to mail than she had received from me total item & shipping. I emailed her & ask if she would like me to split the cost with her but she graciously declined, saying it was her mistake.

Will wait this one out, maybe seller will decide to do right thing, if not, eventually it will let me file dispute.

Thanks again for your advice!

I just realized, they can't file against me for nonpayment, it shows paid, hahahahaha Smiley Very Happy

Yes, wording was after I clicked on the "cancel transaction" in My eBay. Being automated it was just basic ?s, so without details it wasn't going to get me very far. I may try the link to paypal and see what I get there. Truly appreciate your help. One can feel rather overwhelmed by things that we don't deal with on a daily basis. Just nice to have someone have some suggestions of things to try!!! Thanks again!

Well it took a bit of time but by following your paypal link I was able to open a "Significantly Not as Described" dispute. Postage problem was an option under that heading. Requested full refund, so hopefully that will get seller's attention. If not, it will allow me to escalate to a claim, which is PayPal reviewing the complaint and deciding whether I would get refund or not.

Thank you so much for your time & effort, you've been a tremendous help!!! Smiley Happy
