Hello @Erebus117, @Marymermaid7, @Temp20230328l, @Blueeyegirly, and everyone,

Thank you for visiting the PayPal Community Forum! I can certainly understand how receiving a notification like this must be confusing and a bit concerning. It's always good to be cautious when receiving a letter like this, however what @sharpiemarker stated is most likely correct. It sounds like you may have had a negative balance with PayPal or one of our credit products such as PayPal Credit or our Extras MasterCard.

I would recommend using the following resources to reach the appropriate support team to see if you have had an outstanding balance that was forwarded to a collection agency recently:

How do I contact PayPal customer service?

What kind of customer support do PayPal Cashback Mastercard and PayPal Smart Connect provide?
What kind of customer support does PayPal Credit provide?

If you've received a similar notification but you're concerned it may be a phishing attempt, I'd recommend reviewing the following Help Center article for assistance: How do I spot a fake, fraudulent, or phishing PayPal email or website?

I hope that helps!

@Stinabena

You had negative balance in your old PayPal account that was never resolved so PayPal sold the debt to debt collector. You’ll be hearing from the debt collector by mail or phone.

Why do I have a negative balance?

What should I do if my balance is negative?

I’ve never had a credit card with them and I’ve had this account for 10 years. I had one under the email they sent like 12 years ago. Why would they wait 12 years? Can they take the money from my current in good standing account I’ve had for 10+ years?

As the moderator could you post contact information for the MRS-US collection agency?

It seems that a lot of people got this email. I just got one today, I will be waiting to see what it is all about and go from there I guess. If this is a scam email, it's going to cause a lot of problems for sure.

I just got this email too. It says … We transferred your referenced account to MRS-US, and we are providing MRS-US with the following email address for you: (Insert email here) Then goes on to say…. MRS-US may use this email address to communicate with you about the debt. If others have access to this email address, then it is possible that they may see the emails. At the bottom it says this is an attempt to collect a debt. I don’t have one? I don’t understand this email or what’s happening or who “MRS” is? The email is beyond vague.
