My checking account shows a $12.56 payment to eBay Commerce Inc. Order Number: 04-8710-97666. What is this? I didn't order anything in this amount.

If you don’t have an eBay account to review your transactions, report the transaction as unauthorized in the PayPal Resolution Center to start dialogue with merchant to enquire about transaction.

Sorry to hear about the unrecognized charges in your bank account. No need to worry! Firstly, I would suggest you to check with eBay support and your bank to know more details about the charges. 

PayPal protection policy covers all confirmed unauthorized charges. If you see the charges in your PayPal account, you can report them in the resolution center to get your money back. If you do not recognize any of these transactions and they are not showing up on the PayPal account, I would suggest you to report these transactions with your bank for further investigation.

Is there a way to get a detailed explanation as to exactly what was purchased on a given date? I'm assuming I authorized them but don't know for sure because I don't know what was bought.

Welcome back to the PayPal Community Forum! This is a great question. Any details about the transaction will normally be in the Transaction Details in your PayPal Activity. You may also see a description of the item purchased in the email you would have received on or around the purchase date. If those two options don't produce any results, you may want to reach out directly to eBay for assistance.
