How to compute amount to be sent/received (PayPal Philippines)?

I would like to ask if there's a way to compute the actual amount.

For instance, a relative who lives in a different area in the Philippines (same country) ask me to obtain some stuff for them in my city and send to another city.  So they would like to send me money via PayPal.  Let's say the amount to be received is exactly Php1000.

How much is the amount that they should send from their PayPal account so that I receive exactly Php1000 in my PayPal account?

I've noticed once before that if they send say, Php1000, there is around 4% fee, so I may receive something like 958.57,  but I cannot figure out the exact percentage fee since it seems to vary.

Also, I've read (in other countries PayPal) that there would be no fee if the PayPal is funded from the PayPal balance or from the PayPal-linked bank account (instead of debit card or credit card which will then have a fee).  I would like to know if PayPal-linked bank account is an option available here in the Philippines -- if so which bank has this feature?

The other question is: if funding is from credit card or debit card, what is the percentage service fee? I'm presuming there is a fixed fee plus a percentage fee based on the amount, but can't find out these figures.  Thank you.

Hello @d_t_a,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

If you are receiving a payment for 'Goods and Services' in The Philippines the fee is 4.4% + 15.00 PHP. The fixed fee on 15 PHP is based on overseas payments received in PHP, or whatever the relevant currency is. Additional currency conversion fee may apply.

You can find more information about the fees here

I hope this helps!

Thanks very much for pointing to the links. (That part is a long read).

I found another related link about the fees too:

https://www.paypal.com/ph/webapps/mpp/paypal-seller-fees#Transfer

the relevant section is here:

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#currency_conversion_section

In my case, it was a domestic transfer (from Philippine Peso to Philippine Peso), so the actual rate had been 3.9% + Php15 (the calculations matched this one).

I also worked out the formula in case anyone is interested:

assuming you want to send a specific amount to a family member (3.9% + Php15)

so

             (Y + 15)
=> X = --------   (formula for 3.9% + 15 ; adjust if 4.4% => 0.956)
               0.961

Y = amount to receive by recipient
X = amount to send by sender

sample: if you want your relative  to receive Php 1000.

Then you send this amount in PayPal:

  X = (1000 + 15) / (0.961) = Php 1056.19

 the PayPal fee is 3.9% + Php15  = (0.039)(1056.19) + 15 = Php 56.19

and recipient receives actual Php1000 after PayPal fees are deducted.

(note: the rate will be 4.4% for international, and has a currency conversion factor -- not sure which currency conversion rate it uses or where to check for it yet)
