"Convert with card issuer" can't be chosen

Hello,

I frequently make payments between the UK and US using debit cards. Until recently, I've been able to choose whether I want Paypal to perform currency conversion, or for my cards to be charged in USD and the conversion done by the bank,

Now, whenever I try to choose "Convert with Card Issuer" at the checkout, it immediately switches back to "Convert with Paypal".

All cards are set to convert with card issuer by default, and yet this option is now unavailable. Is this deliberate?

I think it is deliberate, i get the same problem, did you ever resolve it?

Yes and no; when I'm paying an invoice, which doesn't use the shiny new interface, I can change this. Using the new one (with the two currency inputs alongside each other) which updates without a page reload, every time I choose the option it takes me back to the start of the process and 'Convert with Paypal' is chosen again.

Very annoying indeed.

I'm actually having this problem both ways around, and not just on the website.

I have one card set, under the EXTREMELY well hidden options page[1], to convert with Paypal by default. However, it shows up as 'convert with card issuer' when I try to send money to friends and family. I am given the option to change it, but it's always as if I left 'convert with card issuer' selected. This happens in both the website, and the iOS app.

I have other cards set to convert with the card issuer by default, but they show up as wanting to convert with Paypal when I go to send to friends and family. Likewise, I can't change this option when making a transaction - I am given the option once again, but it never, ever sticks.

This is becoming extremely frustrating, and actively costing me money I have no need to spend.

I have got around the problem by using a old paypal website.

Google "paypal old site" and look for a link to a old one.

The old interface will have seperate buttons for send and request money.

I actually can't get to this page at all; the only time I have the old site option is paying certain sites that use old integrations. None of the links on any other threads/forums worked.

Bumping this (after a long time) because I still can't change my conversion options at payment time for any card any more; can anyone from Paypal answer why this is the case, even when the option is offered and 'Convert with card issuer' is selected?

I wonder if this is worth a class action lawsuit.
