Charged late fee even though I set up direct debit

I set up a direct debit for my payments, the first one didn’t get taken and I was then charged a £12 late fee. This annoyed me because I had set up the direct debit, so expected it to be done that way? So I then had to pay it manually, and will also get charged later in the month for the second payment, resulting in two payments in one month which I did not want to do. Is there anything I can do about this? The payment hasn’t even come out of my bank account yet, I’m assuming it just needs a couple of days to transfer, because I don’t want to be charged again when I have literally made the payment which has been confirmed. It just feels like everything I am doing right isn’t being processed properly and it’s me dealing with it rather than PayPal.

Hello @Temp20220512c

Welcome to the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear your recent payment didn't process as expected. It sounds like you may be referring to PayPal Credit repayments. For assistance reviewing your direct debit, you'll want to contact PayPal Credit's Customer Support. Their contact information can be found on our Help Center here: How do I make a PayPal Credit payment?

I hope this helps!
