Avast anti-virus never came through with half refund?

Anti virus took my money since I was entirely unaware of their automatical renewal. So I went and asked for a refund. So the chat guy so persistent it would be illegal in Europe (I repeated "I want a full refund and nothing else" 10x like it was a ritual).

So the chat support offered me an all-inclusive subscription for half price. I thought F it and just took being already very annoyed.

So that was January. Inbetween I had many email exchanges and after hearing the same BS repeated - even after I did everything they asked and even asked paypal support who gave the all clear and no issues found - they sent me yet another scripted email to do the same **bleep** thing.

And the big issue was the (now) cursed word: charge back status.

I do understand that you want to get the refund. We are doing our best to resolve this issue as soon as possible. However, our Accounting Team did confirmed that chargeback is still open on your account. Therefore, we need to close the chargeback on your bank account first. Once the chargeback is closed, I can assure you that we will process your refund.

And my conversation with paypal support:

So what that so -called chargeback status has not been applied anymore?

When making a recovery, PayPal opens a dispute with your bank in the system. It has been closed for a long time, so the seller must be able to repay the money for you.

After which they repeated the scripted email asking to close the chargeback status. Or that they will send to the higher ranked team or whatever nonsense they kept saying to keep jerking me around.

So my question is can I somehow get my money back? Does paypal cover this? This was a truly malicious way of doing business from the very start. Careful doing business with Avast!
