How to disable entirely the automatic payment feature?
It is unacceptable that if i pay to an seller by PayPal, it will be automatically added to the active automatic payment list without my acnowledge.

I want to disable this PayPal feature permanently. I want always authorizing every payments. It is crazy that the seller can draw the money when he want!

If you are talking about subscriptions then you can cancel them here.

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > "manage pre-approved payments.''

A lot of times what happens is people accept a free trial for a product, and forget to cancel and it auto renews. Be careful what you are accepting.

The menu item you descibed is for enable/disable the actually existing subscriptions individually.
I want to disable the entire feature: never add an new seller to the subscriptions automatically when i buy something, especially without notification. This is very dangerous.
Now after each payment i need to login, go to the settins, checking there is a new subscription? If yes, then cancel it. Crazy!

There is no option to disable this feature.

Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting PayPal's Community Forum. Thank you @kernowlass for your help so far on this thread, we appreciate your time an expertise.

@Gabor2000, I can certainly understand your concern setting up a billing agreement or subscription with a merchant. If a merchant has chosen to setup billing agreements to provide a good or service to their customers, there's normally not a way to not stop that from happening short of cancelling the billing agreement after every purchase.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause,

This is very frustrating, that an seller can make an billing subscription which is active in the future without my agreement!

From this point on, the seller can steal my money at any time. This is unacceptable for a payment service. If a bank dared to do this, its customers would immediately go to another one!

Any updates to the stupid automatic payment section? I recently deleted all my automatic payments but many of them became active again WITHOUT buying from the merchant or actively activating them. I am speechless that paypal has such a security breach. Time to consider other payment provider ...

Hello @ththth45

Welcome to the PayPal Help Community and thanks for posting here!

I understand you're worried about seeing automatic payments in your PayPal account after deleting them. It's possible that the automatic payments re-enabled when you have made new purchases or they were not deactivated right. I suggest you to follow the steps listed in this article to cancel the automatic payments : What is automatic payment and how do I update or cancel one?

If the issue persists, please reach out to the PayPal support team to get this checked further.

Regards,

Bindu

Hello @PayPal_Bindu This happened for me 3 weeks ago and when I received a notification from PayPal that a seller would deduct an amount from my PayPal account, immediately I tried to cancel this transaction but unfortunately I couldn’t. There was just a message to contact seller and their email address if you would cancel!!! Then in a 30 min. I sent an email to seller and asked them to cancel it but they did not do it in 2 days and this amount deducted from my account!!! Now it is 3 weeks I have contacted seller couple of times and they did not refund my money and just replied you have purchased our application with subscription while I would never do it. What I did at May 2023 was a simple application license purchase and I do not understand why PayPal has set it as a automatic payment without cancellation option!!! Now I am going to escalate this case to PayPal but from my point of view this is a big mistake by PayPal!
