USD PayPal to USD bank accout fees?

Hi

I am new to PayPal and just finalised first money received transaction.

Receved amount was 350 USD which was subject to 5.56% fee when money arrived in my paypal account.

I live in Europe and money came from USA user.

Then I tried to move the remaining amount to my bank account which was in USD also but Paypal was presenting me with only one option: USD to EUR exchange and threfore I was subject to exchange fees from USD to EUR (by Paypal) and then from EUR to USD (by the bank].

Final received amount was 307 USD so final paid fee was 12.3%.

Please let me know if this is normal as I opened a claim to Paypal and their answer was that fees were correctly done but they refused to explain me why the exchange from USD to EUR when bank account and default currency set in my accout was also USD.

Thank you very much.

Withdrawals to bank accounts are always in your countries local currency.

Thank you for your reply but unfortunately this is not true.

I live in Romania so my country currency is Lei which is a recognized currency in PayPal.

For the second transaction I linked my PayPal account to my local bank account in Lei and transferred the USD funds to my local bank.

Again, PayPal did not used my bank currency (Lei) but it decided to use EUR (WHY?????) and I was again double charged with exchange fees, from USD (PayPal account) to EUR and then, from EUR to Lei (by  my bank).

So the total impact on my USD received money was 12.7% which is too much to swallow in the future.

Thank you for your advice but it seems PayPal is not a solution for foreign money transfers.

Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting the PayPal Community Forum. Thank you @kernowlass for your help on this thread so far! We greatly appreciate all the expertise you lend our customers.

@mihai_mail_ro, welcome back! I'm sorry for any confusion on this one. While your country's local currency may be the Romanian Leu, the primary currency, also called the opening currency, for all PayPal accounts registered in Romania is set to the Euro. As stated in our User Agreement, "You may only withdraw PayPal balance in the opening currency of your account."

My apologies again for any confusion this may cause. Best wishes on this and future transactions through PayPal,
