Hello,

I always make my transactions via my bank account, i don't have money in my paypal "wallet". My wallet balance has always been 0. When i make a transaction, i can see the funds in my bank account decrease and if i don't have enough funds, i can't make the transaction.

I checked my bank account and there are no pending transactions or payments. Today i got 3 emails like this ( another one for 100 and one for 200 😞

You recently attempted to transfer funds from your bank account to your PayPal account.

Your bank declined the funds transfer on Nov 24, 2024.

We have canceled this transaction, because the transfer from your bank account failed.

Transaction Details

Transaction Type: Electronic Funds Transfer into your PayPal Account

Transaction ID: 41064868FP8500948

Transaction Date: Nov 24, 2024

Transaction time: 7:58:04 PM

Transaction Amount: 100.00 EUR

( the transaction failed because my account is empty at the moment )

Now my wallet balance is suddenly -400. What is going on? Please, can you tell me what is going on?

Thanks in advance

Maria

Hi Maria, It sounds like you’re experiencing an unexpected issue with your PayPal account balance. Let me help clarify what might be happening: 1. Bank Declines and Negative Balance: When PayPal tries to transfer funds from your bank account to your PayPal account, and the transfer fails (e.g., due to insufficient funds), PayPal may temporarily put your account into a negative balance to reflect the amount that wasn’t successfully funded. This often happens if an automatic transfer or payment was initiated but could not be completed. 2. Possible Causes of the Transfers: Check if you have any automatic payments or subscriptions linked to your PayPal account. Sometimes these can trigger transactions without manual input. Review your recent activity for unauthorized or unexpected transactions. 3. Resolving the Negative Balance: You’ll need to bring your PayPal wallet back to a positive balance to use it normally. This can be done by transferring funds from your bank account once it has sufficient funds or adding a different funding source (like a credit card). If the negative balance is due to an error, you should contact PayPal directly for clarification or dispute the transactions. 4. Contacting PayPal Support: Since this seems unexpected, I recommend reaching out to PayPal's Customer Service for a detailed review. You can do this via: The Resolution Center in your account. Calling the customer service number listed on the PayPal website for your region. Be sure to have the Transaction IDs from the emails handy when you contact PayPal for quicker assistance. I hope this helps clear up what’s happening! Let us know if you have any further questions. Best regards.

Thank you for all the tips! To be honest, i'm afraid that my account has been hacked or something...

I'll try the call center tomorrow.

Transfers from bank accounts are never instant, that is why when you buy something paypal credit the seller upfront for you and paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer to pay them back again, this is so you get your item without delay.

Takes 5-7 working days to transfer as Paypal use the slowest (cheapest) transfer option BUT funds normally leave your bank account from a few hours up to a few days later. If you don't have the funds AND PAYPAL HAVE ALREADY PAID THE SELLER then your balance will go into negative until you pay paypal back again.

You never need funds in your Paypal account balance as a buyer. When you purchase an item then Paypal credit the seller for you, this is so there is no delay in the despatch of your item. Paypal will then take the wait for the funds to automatically transfer to reimburse them from your linked funding source.
However they only take that 'risk'  of crediting the seller upfront if you pay by...

1. Bank transfer but have a back up card linked to your account as well.
2. Debit or credit card.
If you have option 1 but have no back up card linked then your payment may go as an echeque and you and the seller will have to await clearance.

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Something similar happened to me. Paypal insists my bank account is closed and that the bank has declined the transaction multiple times. None of this is true and, yes, I've talked to the bank to confirm nothing weird was going on with my accounts. Supposedly, this was all resolved. Paypal had removed my account but after wasting hours of my life and panicking that my accounts had been hacked, Paypal added the account back in so I could pay the charged that allegedly failed. Well, it failed again. So I guess more hours of my life will now be wasted. I have no confidence in Paypal at this point. Sorry, I have no idea what the resolution is, but just know, it's not you - it's them.
