Use Authenticator App is an option for 2FA but do not understand how to connect PayPal to an authenticator. The authenticator app requires a QR code or key. How to get this information from PayPal website or mobile app?

You could try this.

1. Click the gear (settings) button to the immediate left of the "LOG OUT" text.

2. click the "Security" tab

3. click the link that says "2 step verification" (beside the shield with a check mark in it)

4. follow instructions to set up 2FA as well as a "text message" back up if possible.  It will eventually pop up a QR code you can scan with your authentication app.

That fixed my problem. Somehow, the authenticator app option was set even though it was not associated with a specific authenticator app. Cannot imagine how that happened. Removed the authenticator option, then re-added it. Got the QR code and the rest of the process went smoothly. Thanks.
