Cannot get refund due to delivery fee

Hi I'm currently in a dispute for a refund with a seller.

Some context:

- seller is from Hong Kong apparently

- I received the item (some kind of special computer), so that's ok

- But the item doesn't work, it crashes all the time (so it's broken)

I'm trying to get a refund for the item and currently in a dispute. I said that I'm willing to give the item back but I didn't expect to be forced to pay for the delivery fee myself. The seller demands I send the item back to Hong Kong at my own cost (which is 100-200€), which is about as expensive as the item itself. I've already contacted PayPal itself but they say they cannot force the seller to pay for the shipping.

I don't see any option to withdraw my opinion to give the item back (and thus get the refund just like that)...

Is there even anything I can do, or am I unable to get my refund at all?

Hello @Pedrosso

Welcome! Thank you for joining the PayPal Community Forum. I'm sorry to hear a recent purchase isn't going exactly as you had expected. Normally, if a buyer has an issue with the item they've received, and PayPal is going to authorize a refund to the buyer, normally that refund is contingent on the buyer returning the item to the seller. Unless the seller offers to cover the cost of a return shipping label for the buyer, the cost to return the item does usually come out of the buyer's pocket.

I'm not sure if you or the seller would be amenable to a partial refund, but that may be something you want to ask them about. If the merchant approves a partial refund, normally that means the buyer would keep the item.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause,
