Unauthorized Transaction with my.com b.v.

What happened to buyer protection, or whatever protection Paypal seems to boast about? The coverage is close to none!

I woke up this morning getting a text from Paypal regarding a login code. Mind you I was sleeping, so why would I be getting asked to verify a log in an hour prior to me waking up? I immediately started freaking out and logging into my account in hopes they weren’t able to go through but of course, to my surprise, there’s a charge of $75 USD out of my account from some website I never even heard of my entire life! The merchant is my.com B.V. I immediately went ahead to file a dispute and reported the transaction as unauthorized. Paypal said it would take 10 days to review the case but as per usual, they got back to me within an hour or so closing the case and saying that I authorized a transaction for a site I don’t even know existed, greatIt’s almost as if the fraud or dispute department never looks into cased AT ALL. This is the second time I’ve gotten hacked and Paypal telling me it’s my fault and I just gotta accept it.

I’ve been trying to escalate it to a claim but there’s no option for me to in the resolution centre. I’ll hopefully call Paypal sometime this week, since I’m busy. I know $75 USD (approx. $100 CAD) doesn’t sound a lot to some, but as a student it’s a ridiculous amount. I’m losing hope since some people on here have brought up the same issue and Paypal did the same thing by closing down their cases, with the SAME merchant.

I’ve contacted my bank regarding this matter and opened up a dispute. Paypal doesn’t seem to care about its users and I feel so unsafe using this platform now. Looking to permanently shut my account down once I get to the bottom of this 😕 I’d appreciate any insight or advice from anyone who’s experienced the same issue, as this is just flat out ridiculous. It makes so sense that Paypal reimburses people who take advantage of buyer protection, buyers who scam businesses, yet serious issues like this seem to get overlooked…

Hello,

Today I also realise the same company withdraw £10 last year. I never play on anything.

Can you please advise how to secure our account?

I went for the preapproved payment in my account and that is when I saw it, I won't even aware of it.

I inactive the payment. What else I can do to make sure this doesn't happen again? I was lucky it was so little money, but still.

Hello @leoncatangela,

Welcome to PayPal Community Forum and thank you for posting!

I am sorry to know about the unrecognized charges on your account. As you have mentioned that you haven't authorized these transactions, the first step that needs to be taken is to check for the active billing agreement payment and have it canceled. Once you have canceled, you can report the charges through the Resolution Center by following the steps in this link so that our concerned team can review the case. Also, please make sure you update your password & security questions. Learn about secure password tips here.

Regards,

Ayesha

Hello @Temp20230606,

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum and thank you for your post!

Sorry to hear about the unauthorized transaction in your PayPal account. I know this can be concerning! This charge could be from a service you signed up for in the past. It sounds like you created a Billing Agreement/subscription with your seller during a checkout. A billing agreement authorizes a merchant to take payment from a customer's PayPal account when they make a purchase from the merchant’s website. As a buyer, you must agree to the Billing Agreement before a merchant can take a payment from your PayPal account.

No payments will be debited in future as you have already canceled the subscription with the merchant. In this case, I recommend you to contact the merchant for a refund and also reach to PayPal Support team to take a second look on the case.

Best wishes,

Bindu

I just reported unauthorized access and money transfer to some fraudulent company under the name My.com B.V. And PayPal says that the case is closed and that they haven't found anything suspicious. Is that possible? How can my money be safe? I'm disappointed!

Same answer as last time you asked.

Check if you had a subscription set up.
Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > "manage pre-approved payments.''

A lot of times what happens is people accept a free trial for a product and forget to cancel and it auto renews. Be careful what you are accepting.

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hello,

I post here for the same problem with My.games.

Since the 24th of August 2022, my Paypal account was used without my authorization for "pre-authorized" payement that were ranging from 40 euros to more than 500 and so clearly not a subscription but someone else usage . That's gigantic, and the total is 1k. What's scary however is that I was never notified by Paypal of this payement. Where all others payements are made to my knowledge, and I have each time a mail when money is spend or sent, here... nothing. Not once. It's by pure luck I discovered today the money sent. I cancelled immediatly the "pre-authorized" payement and opened a case but Paypal closed it immediatly, saying it was authorized.

But I never had contact with that enterprise, nor one of their game, and I was never in knowledge of their existence or any of their authorization asking. It's like someone else used my Paypal account for their purchases. How can I get my money back in that case? It is worse I use double authentification and each payement or possible subscription have to be payed with both my computer and phone bank application. I don't know how that could have happened and why I never got any mail of that despite my "billing" mail of the false subscription being my mail. If I did got any notifications at all, I would have remarked immediatly the problem, and cancelled. Now, I am confused and just want my stolen money back. I hope it can be understand.

I reply to this topic to say the problem was since resolved: it seem that some payments were effectively authorized and others not: but that the case was because of Boosty behaviour and using My.games. I will try to solve this with Boosty!

I have subscribed to X Minus Pro via Boosty a few months ago.  I seemed to have had no problems.  It's probably perceived to be fraudulent given that it's believed to be a gaming site when really it is legit.  The transaction shown on bank statements is likely misleading and really the so-called impacted users didn't subscribe to the My Games website.  I did subscribe to X Minus Pro on my own accord, and payments have been made on a monthly basis.  It could be that the PayPal account that Boosty uses is the same account that represents MyGames - it's likely that MyGames is the official company that runs their PayPal account, and X Minus Pro is likely a subsidiary.

I have clicked Manage my payments on PayPal, and have cancelled future payments.  But either way, while I do have a subscription to X Minus Pro for another month, I am considering cancelling in a few weeks on the X Minus Pro site due to rising costs and my desired purpose having been fulfilled by that point.

And oh yeah, I do not have an account nor did I buy anything from the My Games site.

So interestingly enough I had this same issue. The difference with mine is that I had actually paid for a couple of things with the my.com merchant in the past and this created an automatic payment connection to my PayPal account. I just spoke with a rep at PayPal about this and she said that because I had sent payment to them before in a legitimate manner and because through that payment process I went through an automatic payment was created then the illegitimate payment to my.com was seen as authorized and PayPal will not refund my money. In my case it was $51.00, so not earth shattering but definitely something I would like a refund on. Given this information I asked the rep/agent if any of the other authorized automatic payment merchants (spotify, NFL, google) that I still have active agreements with were to charge me any amount at all that I would have to pay that even if I didn't actually click a button or submit a payment and the agent replied with 'yes, that's correct'. She recommended that any time I pay a merchant and that payment creates an automatic payment entry in PayPal that I go and review that and determine if I want them to ever be able to process any amount of money (legit or not) through that auto payment, if not I should delete it. The agent also said I could contact the merchant to dispute it with them, I've already sent them an email but I'm fairly certain I'll never get a response.

Finally, I asked her what would happen if I dispute this through the actual funding source of the payment (bank, CC, other) and she said that if I did that, PayPal would show a negative balance of 51 dollars on my account because they would then be defending the merchant who illegitimately charged me $51. So, if I did get my money back through the funding source I would still be out the $51 in my PayPal account which means it's not worth it for me to do this. It's a nice little program (dare I say scam) that's setup around this that's completely indefensible by the customer. EVERYONE needs to monitor their automatic payment in PayPal regularly and cancel/delete everything in there that is not an active subscription.

Stay safe out there!
